The Department of Special Education offers programs in two areas: Special Education Teaching (B.S.), (M.S.Ed), and (Ed. S.) Special Education: Disabilities Studies (Non-Teaching, B. S.) The overall purpose of these programs is to prepare professionals to respond to the unique needs of individuals with disabilities. Special Education Teaching: Mild/Moderate (B. S.) The mission of the program in Mild/Moderate is to improve the educational and community living outcomes----disabilities and their families through: (a) development and dissemination of new knowledge, (b) provision ---- experiences through quality personnel preparation, and (c) provision of service and leadership in the field of ----education. Special Education Non-Teaching: Disabilities Studies (B. S.) The mission of the program in Disabilities Studies is to prepare individuals for professional roles in community settings, rehabilitation agencies and institutions where individuals with disabilities receive services. Disabilities ----an opportunity for candidates to work with persons with disabilities outside of the school environment. This is ---- intensive fieldwork to allow candidates to pursue specialized interests and needs. Special Education (M.S.Ed) The mission of this program is to prepare candidates who are already certified to increase their competencies -- in teaching endorsement areas. The Master of Education degree anticipates the needs pf the teaching profession -- special education by addressing the issues surrounding the increasingly multicultural and diverse student --- special education classrooms within the state and nation. This program was developed to reflect excellence -- combined with practical experience. Special Education (Ed .S) The mission of this program is to prepare candidates for careers in teaching, research, and service in public --- schools, government, educational agencies, administration, and other human service professions. Candidates in this program must hold AA certification for this specialized advanced program of study. This program is designed to compliment each candidate's unique interests so that candidates may realize current educational needs and --- Advanced coursework and practicum experiences are designed to provide candidates with a knowledge base -- thesis that will reflect current problems or issues in the field of education.
