Dr. Jean Farish Chair and Professor WELCOME!!! The Department of School, Community and Rehabilitation Counseling (SCRC) offers graduate level training, provides leadership and promotes excellence in professional preparation of counselors and psychometrists. The mission of SCRC, as responsive counselors and psychometrists, is to apply the knowledge, skills and professional expertise to serve the state of Mississippi and the global community. The masters level School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Rehabilitation Counseling program is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). The programs qualify students to apply for counselor licensure and certification. SCRC contributes substantially to the critical supply and demand for qualified professional counselors and psychometrists. Graduates provide mental health, school and rehabilitation counseling, and psychometric services in a wide variety of settings including schools, mental health centers, hospitals and public and private rehabilitation agencies. Services are provided to address social problems and assist consumers in productive living. Qualified rehabilitation counselors meet the needs of citizens with disabilities in the state of Mississippi through ethical and effective service delivery. Furthermore, SCRC faculty engage in research and scholarly endeavors to ensure best practices in academic endeavors. Student research is strongly encouraged with opportunities for students to present scholarly papers at professional conferences and to publish with faculty. Each student is encouraged to become a member of the international counseling academic honor society, Chi Sigma Iota, Beta Omicron Chapter. We hope that you consider our Department and look forward to supporting your academic growth and professional development.
